Sony’s shareholding in medical startups has increased by more than $1 billion a year

On the morning of June 9, Beijing time, Sony has just received a lot of money from an unknown medical company.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, the value of M3's equity held by Sony has increased by more than 50% in the past year, reaching about $4 billion. Sony holds a 39% stake in M3, and its value has grown by more than $1 billion over the past 12 months.

M3 is a medical portal founded in 2000. It is mainly used by doctors in Japan, China and the United States. They will look for drug information and communicate with each other. The company said earlier this year that it plans to expand its investment in medical startups in Japan and abroad.

M3 acquired some assets from Sony in 2003 and went public in 2004. M3 shares soared this year due to revenue and profit growth. The stock rose 4.5% on Wednesday, hitting a record high of 3,480 yen.

A Sony spokesperson declined to comment.
