The research team of Professor Daisuke Daisuke (Molecular Design Chemistry) of Konan University (Kobe City) released a research report on the online edition of the British Science Journal on the 11th, by combining specific compounds with cancer cells of skin cancer and leukemia, and then using The light was irradiated and successfully targeted only to the cancer cells for killing.
Although it is the result of in vitro experiments, it is expected to contribute to the development of a therapeutic method that inhibits proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells.
The team is concerned with the protein "NRAS" that promotes cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. It is reported that since NRAS has a spherical structure and there are few sites that can be combined with other substances, it has been difficult to develop drugs targeting NRAS.
However, the team found that the "NRAS mRNA" that transmits NRAS genetic information has a quadruple helix structure that binds to a compound called "ZnAPC." Irradiation of the compound with light not only decomposes NRAS mRNA, but also produces reactive oxygen species, which can destroy cancer cells.
In the experiment, ZnAPC was added to human breast cancer cells, and then irradiated with near-infrared light having less influence on the human body, resulting in a decrease in the production of NRAS, and almost all cancer cells were killed.
Although research using light to kill cancer cells has progressed at home and abroad, the team said its method is also effective for cancer cells deep in the lesion.
