Formaldehyde agarose gel electrophoresis and northern blotting of total RNA purified using the RNeasy Maxi Kit. Total RNA (10 μg) was isolated from samples from various sources and loaded into lanes. All tissues are derived from mice. Yeast: Saccharomyces cerevisiae; E. coli strain: HB101. 32P-labeled probe recognizes (G)GAPDH; (E) translation elongation factor EF-1α; and (O) outer membrane protein A sequence. (E and O were supplied by P. Philippsen of the University of Basel, Switzerland, and U. Henning of the Max Planck Institute for Biology, Tübingen, Germany.) B. subtilis was not probed. M: 0.24–9.5 kb RNA molecular weight standard. The 7.5 kb band (indicated) in the embryo, Huh7 and HeLa cell lanes is nuclear precursor RNA.
