On April 7, British Chinese scientists and scientists at Peking University in China published their collaboration papers, revealing the relationship between eating fresh fruits and Chinese cardiovascular disease. During the period from 2004 to 2008, they conducted a follow-up study of 3.2 million adults for 510,000 adults and concluded that Chinese people are associated with low blood pressure and low blood sugar, and are largely independent of other diets or non- Dietary factors, eating fruit are also significantly associated with a low incidence of cardiovascular disease.
The paper was published in the top medical journal New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). The study, initiated by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the University of Oxford, is the first large-scale cohort study based on Chinese.
The relationship between food and health seems simple, and it is actually difficult to study. This is probably one of the reasons why most Chinese food articles are cheating. To find out, from 2006 to 2013, the researchers conducted a questionnaire survey on the body of 510,000 adults between the ages of 30 and 79 in 10 different regions of China (5 urban areas, 5 rural areas). Basic condition survey and dietary status survey, in which effective tracking data reached 3.2 million people, in order to understand the relationship between Chinese fresh fruit intake and cardiovascular disease incidence and death.
The study completed the questionnaire by training medical workers in local clinics. The contents of the questionnaire mainly include the socioeconomic status of the investigator, smoking history, drinking status, health status, medical condition, etc. In addition, the weight, height, blood pressure, blood sugar level and waist circumference of the investigator were measured. In the diet, researchers mainly surveyed their intake of 12 major foods, such as rice, wheat products, fresh vegetables, pickled vegetables and fresh fruits.
The median age of the respondents was 50.5 years old, of which 58.8% were women, and 42.5% of the respondents lived in cities, so the sample data was representative. According to the study, 5173 of all investigators died of cardiovascular disease, 2551 had coronary heart disease, and 14579 had a stroke. High levels of fruit ingestors have lower blood pressure and blood sugar.
The researchers did not give a definitive answer as to the frequency and amount of fruit intake to ensure health. But in another study by a group of researchers in 2014, we learned that if 80 grams of fruit is added to the diet every day, the mortality rate will be reduced by 5%. The study is also a large-scale cohort study of fruit intake in the Chinese population, but the focus of the study is on the relationship between fruit and fresh vegetable intake and death.
The study also found that 18% of people who ate fruits every day had a significantly lower proportion of cardiovascular disease than those who did not. In terms of death from heart and cerebrovascular disease or coronary disease, people who ate fruits every day were 40% and 34% lower, respectively, than those who did not.
Dr. Du Huaidong, a researcher at the University of Oxford, the first author of the study, said, “Our study found that the association between fruit intake levels and cardiovascular risk in Chinese population is stronger than in Western populations.†As for the reason, Du Huaidong said. This may be due to the fact that the level of fruit intake in Chinese is significantly lower than that in Western Europe and the United States. Professor Li Liming, a principal of the study and a professor of epidemiology and statistics at Peking University, said: "According to the global burden of disease, recent Reported that low levels of fruit intake in China are one of the major risk factors for premature death. This conclusion is mainly based on Western rather than our own research.†If increased fruit intake can actually reduce cardiovascular disease The risk, by promoting the daily intake of fresh fruit per Chinese, is about 500,000 deaths per year from cardiovascular disease.
Of course, this study also has certain limitations. For example, in this survey, the researchers did not consider the ingestors' intake of fresh vegetables and assessed their impact. In addition, the study did not effectively count the types of fruits consumed by the investigators. So we still don't know what fruit to eat is healthier.
As Professor Chen Yuming, the head of the study and professor of epidemiology at Oxford University, said, the observational epidemiological study, "the results cannot be used to establish a causal relationship between fruit intake and cardiovascular risk. â€
Cardiovascular disease is the world's highest rate of mortality and disability. About 17 million people die from cardiovascular disease every year worldwide, and 80% of cardiovascular patients live in developing countries. China is a serious disease. Burden.
The study is statistically relevant and does not prove to be causal, that is, strictly speaking, there is no evidence that eating fruit can reduce cardiovascular disease. This possibility is supported, not proven. Scientific research to prove relevance requires more research.
