A small NIH-funded preliminary study found that video taken from a patient's cell phone was diagnosed with an accuracy of 87% from the diagnosis of the condition and the face.
The Natural Observation Diagnostic Assessment (NODA) system is an app developed by Behavioral Image Solutions in Atlanta, Georgia.
Agata Rozga, a researcher at the Georgia Institute responsible for part of the NODA platform research, presented the technology at a company presentation at the Interoperability and Integrated Innovation Lab Incubation Company.
She said: "Although people are getting to understand autism, we still see that when parents first realize the problem and go to the doctor, they obviously delay the diagnosis of the disease. The child lost the early critical treatment time."
The app instructs the patient to take a 10-minute video of the child, including eating, playing alone, and playing with others. The fourth video is a video of the parents, recording their concerns and observations. Through this process, the app can also guide parents to help them make videos to help physicians diagnose.
Once the appropriate video is available, the video will be uploaded to the physician. The doctors in the background will mark the time stamp according to the diagnostic criteria of the disease, and record the diagnosis process according to the video.
The purpose of this measure is to solve the problem of children's autism screening parents waiting for results for a long time, and also enable parents in remote areas to get help from experts.
A clinical study enrolling 32 children with autism, 9 typical children, and 6 children without autism showed that parents used NODA for diagnosis and private physicians for diagnosis. Through the blind test, the accuracy of the app system diagnosis was 87%.
The company is currently recruiting participants for larger-scale experiments.
