The plant natural resistant macrophage protein (Nramp) family plays an important role in heavy metal stress. However, the existing research has found almost no functional features of Nramps in heavy metal-enriched plants in the southeastern landscape.

2017, China Institute of Subtropical Forestry CAF Zhuoren Ying researchers published a research group entitled "Sedum alfredii SaNramp6 Metal Transporter Contributesto Cadmium Accumulation inTransgenic Arabidopsis thaliana" (Sci Rep, 2017, 7 (1) in the Scientific Reports: 13318 .) The article explores the role of Sedum alfra Nramp in heavy metal stress.

The Nramp6 gene was cloned and identified using the southeast sedum as a material, and its function in transgenic Arabidopsis was analyzed. The SaNramp6 cDNA contains a 1638 bp ORF encoding 545 amino acids. Cadmium (Cd) stress induced the expression of SaNramp6, and roots and leaves reached peak after one week and 12 hours.

SaNramp6 is localized on the protoplast plasma membrane of Arabidopsis thaliana, safflower tobacco epidermis and onion epidermal cells. Heterologous expression experiments in yeast mutants showed that SaNramp6 increased the Cd content in yeast cells. In addition, under Cd stress, data on Cd concentration, translocation factor and Cd2+ flow rate showed that SaNramp6 overexpressing Arabidopsis showed high levels of Cd accumulation.

Among them, the Cd2+ flow rate was measured by NMT Physiolyzer®, a NMT biophysical detector based on Non-invasive Micro-test Technology (NMT). The results showed that Cd2+ was overexpressed in the overexpression group compared to wild-type Arabidopsis. The rate of absorption increased significantly, while the group of mutations decreased significantly.
