According to foreign media reports, a cohort study at Stanford University showed that Google Glass can help surgeons monitor vital signs more closely during surgery, helping them prevent surgical complications. Researchers used VitalMedicals' VitalStream software, which was developed by the surgeons involved in the trial.

Stanford Hospital surgeon Oliver Alami, also CEO of Vital Medicals, said in a video demonstration: "There is no anesthesiologist during the patient's anesthesia, and only you and the nurse are treating the medication, and the nurse is often multitasking in the process. Distraction, you will lose the monitoring of the patient's vital signs and conditions. Google Glass will give you an opportunity through VitalStream software, it will be in front of you when you need to monitor this information. In the emergency, it will give you Alerts, such as a drop in blood pressure or a drop in oxygen saturation, so I found it valuable to use Google Glass to monitor vital signs during surgery."

The study of 14 surgical inpatients underwent simulated thoracic catheterization and bronchoscopy. Traditional vital sign detectors have been applied to all surgeries, and half of the residents have used the Google Glass app to detect vital signs. After the trial, a questionnaire survey was conducted on the resident doctor.

Residents using Google Glass used an operating room monitor to reduce 88%, but found that simulated oxygen saturation was 8.0 seconds earlier than the control doctor. In tracheal replacement, the time spent simulating hypotension was found to be 10.5 seconds earlier than the control group.

After the trial, 64% of the participants agreed or strongly agreed that Google Glass increased their environmental awareness, 88% found that glasses helped them monitor vital signs, 93% thought he was easy to use, and 85% Said it can improve the safety of patients. Vital Medicals said the study has not yet been published.

This is not the first time Stanford has been involved in Google Glass. In July of this year, the School of Cardiothoracic Surgery used the software training period of the Google glasses app developer CrowdOptic to conduct a thoracic heart surgery. When the resident is undergoing surgery, the surgeon can use the software to observe the progress of the resident's surgery and send video feedback to the resident.
