A variety of cell types can "rejuvenate"

The reporter learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences: After five years of research, the research team led by researcher Yan Duanqing of the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health of the Chinese Academy of Sciences revealed the scientific principle of chemical methods for preparing stem cells, and developed a simple and efficient method for preparing stem cells. Stem cell research and optimized preparation pathways provide a new scientific perspective and solution. Induced pluripotent stem cells can be used to regenerate new tissues and organs, provide personalized "seed" cells for disease treatment and regenerative medicine, and help humans understand the mystery of "transformation" of cells. Scientists from all over the world have developed various methods, some have potential cancer-causing hazards, and some have weaknesses such as many steps, long time, low efficiency, and unclear mechanism.

After five years of efforts, the Qi Duanqing team developed a method for inducing pluripotent stem cells by chemical small molecules. It only needs to "bath" the cells with two different "drugs", and then "rejuvenate" to a multi-functional state. This process is accomplished by closing the somatic chromatin structure of small molecules in the "potion" and then turning on the pluripotency gene. The program can achieve a variety of somatic cell types "rejuvenation", including liver cells that are extremely difficult to culture in vitro. Yan Duanqing said: "Since the introduction of foreign genes, the method is simple to operate, uniform induction conditions, clear and standardized all components, will provide a safe and efficient preparation method for stem cell application, and provide a new direction for the development of drugs to induce cell fate transformation. Xie Xin, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences and deputy director of the National New Drug Screening Center, said that this study has made China a world leader in compound-induced pluripotent stem cells.
